‘I’ for Excellence

Hastening through the office doors

Trundling towards my bay

I’m interrupted by a familiar voice

“Slow down, it’s Just Another Day”!

I sit back in my chair

Ruminating over what I hear

Examining what changed between this morning and the last

I must admit, the evidence ain’t too clear…

I begin to sift through my e-mails like everyday

And prepare to respond to another stinker from a tenacious colleague

I know what I shouldn’t write this time

Experience tells me to guard against being too meek

I stop that instant, the cogwheels turn

I smile to myself as I begin to see

The difference that came with the day gone by

Was the difference that came in ME

I realise as I heave along my road to success

Journeying through the myriad of seasons life presents

Each gale that knocks me to my knees

Must strengthen my resolve, must reinforce my intent

I am limited by my choices

To rise to the occasion or continue just the same

Each day is an opportunity to better myself

Reinvention is the name of the game

I have not all the knowledge troves

Or skills documented in the books - old or new

But what I have is the will to learn

To improve myself and what I do

As I look inside, hastening to find that fire

I discover it feeds solely on passion to achieve the extra-ordinary

I wait not, I stop not, I let it consume me whole

For I now know, the road to EXCELLENCE begins from ME!!

Noise

An eerie silence descends around

You wonder what you’ve lost and found

Life has always offered choices to thee

And let you choose what you’ve wanted to be

Yet answerless questions in thy mind abound

And continue on their relentless quest to confound

They clutter, they clog, they scream aloud

What is the worth of all that makes you proud?

A piercing word of the one you love

A careless conversation or unemotional shove

Why does it fail thy memory never

Why does it scar today, tomorrow & forever?

A silent word, you wish someone would hear

And gently kiss away each tear

A wishful thought of being yourself

Lost in the farcical race to power and pelf

Being lonely and alone – is obscenely insane

The innocuous darkness bequeaths searing pain

Need a hand that pulls you into the sliver of light

The caress that enchants you to give in without a fight

The purity of the night sky levitates you to realms anew

Alleviates thy being from the curse of the bloody hue

That conquers the soul of man, that makes one heathen

You struggle for glory & let morality weaken

Platitudinous, banal, empty & fake

Keep up the run ‘cause we got millions to make

Stop not to think of the one who waits for you

A silent shadow, a beating heart , sacred and true.

A stranger greets  you on the journey today

As a friend & guide you wish he’d always stay

A fork in the road, you bid good-bye

Miles ahead you realise you shall never again see eye to eye.

A divine intervention - you meet ahead on the same road

But now you realise that each of you carries a heavier load

Crumbling under your own burdens, you cannot even talk

It’s the last lap of the journey, with him you can no longer walk

Down and out you are just inches away,

But the glittering throne no-longer holds its sway

You wish you had never come so far

You left behind those who made you feel like a star

Turn around, solace beckons

But the way home looks unfamiliar, darkness threatens

Down on your knees, you let out a blood curdling wail

You have no-one for company but for the ruthless gale

Weary and wasted, you watch life slip away

For a chance to re-live the feeble memories of happiness you pray

The warmth of a tear-drop is your only shroud as you go cold

Your final wish – you could have ‘lived’ before you grew old...
